Dressage To Music

Marchell Mab Y Dewin agained showed his talent when he recently competed at NDG Britsh Dressage at Myerscough.

Competing in the Freestyle To Music section at both Novice and Elementary level he went on to win both classes.

The 11 year old gelding out of Dulas Debutante and by Erwfforch Dewin Direudus is owned by Eileen Lester and shows a talent for jumping as well.

Congratulations Eileen.

The Cobs can jump as well...........................

Showing that the part-breds are not the only ones that can perform, four year old Marchell Morning Chorus was snapped below at the Ipswich Horse Society Show where she took third place in the M & M Mixed WHP class.

Out of Hwylog Marian and by Hendrewen Deryn Morning Chorus has taken a shine to jumping despite only recently starting out in competition.

BEF - Young Horse Evaluations

Anne and I took a weeks break up in sunny (NOT!!) Scotland last week but if the weather was a dampner the news we had via a text message certainly was not!

Following on from her success at the Royal Highland Show, WSH Stop The Music did her owner Julia Lyon proud at the British Equestrian Federation Young Horse Evaluations.

The two year old filly, by Street Music and out of Bluewell Stop The War,was vetted then evaluated by three assessors and marked in-hand and loose jumping.Gaining a mark of 9 for athleticism and an overall average mark of 8.43, awarded her a 1st Premium.

Her final placing at the end of all the UK evaluations left her 6th over both sexes for 2 year old Show Jumpers.

Marchell Mab Y Brenin - new event!

Last weekend saw Marchell Mab Y Brenin venture down a new route! (He's the bay pictured in the header above!)

Having been very successful in the dressage arena with his owner, Eileen Lester, she decided that a new discipline was called for and took the plunge with "Arena Eventing". Held at Barton Equestrian the event comprised of dressage, showjumping and then wh jumps.

A good dressage test left him in first place and after a four hour wait and two clear rounds of jumping "Sionyn" came home victorious taking first place at his first attempt!.

Marchell Mab Y Brenin is by Erwfforch Dewin Direudus and out of Dulas Debutant.

P Limited Edition does good again.

Well I havent all the details yet but I had a phone call on Thursday to tell me that Pentaran Limited Edition had won the Novice Working Hunter at Ponies UK. Well done to all concerned.

Like Father, like Daughter

This is a photo I received this morning from a friend of mine in Suffolk, Linda Dainton, competing with Pentaran Indiana Jones at a show in Essex a week ago. It was Jonesy's first Sidesaddle competition and she won. Recognise the costume? Here she is by Hendrewen Deryn and out of Parkswood Pride who was also the dam of Pentaran Oystercatcher. Below is Deryn at the Anglesey Show at the age of 25.

Llanidan Buddig

Having owned this mare since a weanling, I was sad to see 'Flash' set out for pastures new in the far north - Aberdeen!

Scanned in foal to Derwen Trot On, Flash should hopefully produce a 'probably' black/brown foal for the Gubrach Stud.

During her 12 years with me Flash was trouble free and produced some lovely foals for the Marchell Stud, including my part-bred mare Marchell Bold Lady, who is retained.

Good luck to Nim Watson with her new aquisition.

Nearly Forgot

Well our last foal has been born - very late in the year for us. A beautiful and HUGE bay filly by the old gent Hendrewen Deryn, she is a part bred out of one of our smaller mares Bezique by TB Olympic Casino. She is super friendly and bold and even now has a canter to die for just like her sire. Its always difficult to know whether to keep them or not but Im sure this little filly ,like her half and full siblings will be a successfull competition horse for someone in the future . Pictures to follow soon.

Doing well again

Pentaran Limited Edition and Pentaran Oystercatcher are both currently doing well in their first season BE . Keira had her first placing recently with Oystercatcher being 8th at Malpas , with just some time faults in the X/C ,and Leanne riding Sioned Ross Jones's Limited Edition was 7th this last weekend at Stafford with good scores and a clear cross country. Pictures of them both above ,Limited Edition the bay and Oystercatcher the brown. LE is full sister to Special Edition who is also doing well this year.

About time really - Jelani

Well this boy has been with us now since the end of April, he had a late start with us as he had mares booked to him at his previous home . In fact we had two mares foal to him before he arrived here as they followed him down here!

He is a gent of a horse and has learnt to use the dummy well too. I thought it was about time we got some non racing pictures of him to put on our site so here he is , he looks less whippet like by now!

The foal is out of celandine.

Marchell Dylan Thomas

Some things are meant to be !

Yesterday saw Anne and I travel up the M6 to sunny Cumbria (Not!).The weather was horrendous with rain and road spray all the way.Our task was to deliver Marchell Dylan Thomas to meet his new owner , who in turn was taking him back North of the border to Dundee.
He travelled and behaved impecably and I was sad to see him go , although a lovely new home awaited him.

Funnily enough, all the way home the car radio blared out with references to Dylan Thomas, the Welsh Poet, after whom Dylan was named.Fate?

Good luck to Debbie with Dylan.

RDA National Championships

We received some photos and an e- mail this morning from the new owners of Brynderwen Lady to tell us that she had attended the above show at the weekend, and cane 6th in the walk, trot, canter test with a novice rider and then she became a last minute substitute after a horse lameness for a young blind rider in the walk/ trot test.

She has a really happy expression on her face and is apparently very well loved and a popular ride.

Catching up is nice.

Its always nice to hear how the youngsters get on especially having almost lost track of this little mare when her first owner sold her on ,she is in another lovely home now and doing well for Melanie her owner. Her name is Pentaran Guinevere, she is six and by Erwfforch Dewin and out of Abercippyn Dancer Rose . I will copy and paste her e-mail before I put on the pictures.
i am not very good at the old e-mail. hope you can do something with these sideways photos if not let me know.

dressage one was the semi-finals at wellington riding school affiliated prelim. pony aged 51/2 she came 4th out of approx 40 horses.

this got us through to the Hartpury petplan finals where she loved all the crowds and surface and would of loved to stop and look into the wooden judges box!

unplaced but not disgraced took it all in her stride.

the other photos, i lent her to a friend they did the offa's dyke trial no other people, horses from monmouth to Abergavenny 17 days away. she swam across a river at one point and stayed at lots of different places. pony aged 4when she left and a mature 5 on her return.

she has also had 10 days autumn trailing the master of the field very impressed by her attitude and very quick brain. (pony wants to be a whipper in everytime he went whizzing past she did her damdest to follow!!)

she did jump when hounds where crying a 3 ft 9" wall and landed running totally focused on keeping up with the field.
if she had looked around WE WHERE the field plus hunt staff. awesome.

hope you enjoy these

thanks

mel

What a versatile little mare .

Showing Success - WSH Stop The Music

They REALLY like us up North !!

WSH Stop The Music, out of Bluewell Stop The War and by Street Music has been very busy these past few days. Her first visit to the Abeerdeen & District W.P & C.Group Exhibitors Show saw her take Reserve Welsh Part Bred and then on to the BIG one at the Highland Show where she took second place in the 2 yr old Hunter Class, in a very strong class. Finally on the the Scottish & Northern Medal Show where she took Part Bred Champion - phew what a week!
Stop The Music was the first foal to carry the WSH prefix and hopefully she will be the first in a line of winners.
Well done to her owner Julia Lyon for all her hard work.

Seems they like us up North

Well its all points North for WSH this year it appears!

Marchell Dylan Thomas was vetted on Thursday and he will soon be heading for his new home in Dundee.

Derwen Escapade, our lovely little Sec A will also soon be heading up Preston way to start his new career as a childs pony and last but not least, Doylan Sweet Fascination - she will be going to Warrington, also destined for a showing career with her new owner Megan. Thank goodness for the M6 :)

Good luck and thank you to all the new owners.Remember to keep in touch!

Start them young

Here is a picture of an as yet un-named filly foal out of Pentaran Red Alert and by Derwen Trot On , she is a little gem,and enjoyed her fuss the other night from some friends children.

Marchell Perpetual Motion

Out of Dulas Debutante and by Erwfforch Dewin Direudus, Perptual Motion has a hard act to follow but it seems she has started well! On her first outing with her new owner the two year old filly took the red rosette at the recent Northern All Welsh Show.
A full sister to the ever successful Marchell Mab Y Dewin and half sister to the equally successful Pentaran Blackadder (Dulas Debutante x Hendrewen Deryn ) it seems that success is in the genes!
Well done to her owner Claire Woolsenholme.

Sunday, 15 June 2008

Pentaran Blackadder does well.

I had an E-mail from Charlotte Mead tonight to tell me that P Blackadder a son of Hendrewen Deryn and Dulas Debutantes ,had won his ridden class, been overall Supreme Ridden Champion and won his first ever performance medal . She said he had floated effortlessly around the ring in the same manner as his Sire.

Well done Charlotte. Also last week his first Daughter was born, black with the same white socks. Hopefully she will have a bright future like her sire and grandad.

WSH Stop The Music

One the first of the WSH foals to carry the prefix - now a two year old, Music had her first outing to a local show near her home in the North East of Scotland. Music is out of a Welsh Cob mare (Bluewell Stop The War) and by one of TB stallions - Street Music. Her dam is 16h so Music is sure to make the height and is certainly growing well. Her owner, Julia Lyon is educating Music in preparation for the larger shows..Well done Julia.

Its great to see the stock as they grow and we always welcome communication from 'our' owners. Keep in touch ladies and gents :)

Marchell Morning Chorus grows up !

Marchell Morning Chorus (affectionately known as Mrs P) continued her education with an impromtu visit to the Suffolk Show.A late replacement, she found herself in with the big guys when as a novice she tackled the ridden cobs.

Behaving impecably despite her young age and having been only recently backed, her owner Anna Chaplin was rightly impressed with her.Anna has done all the work with Mrs P herself and is now teaching the young mare to jump - following in her great sire's footsteps!

Keira and Pentaran Oystercatcher do well.

I had a phone call today from a very happy Keira sweeney who bought Pentaran Oystercatcher as a yearling. She has done really well with her and today was placed in only her second British Eventing Competition at Llanymynech Powys. She lay second after the dressage and just had an unfortunate fence down in the Showjumping and as per usual went clear Cross Country. Well done to you both.

Highs and lows of breeding.

Well to date we have a few foals on the ground ,only Sophie TB mare ( Lady of Harrock) and Bezique (TB) to go now . Unfortunately Flossie ( Mandalus Thyme ) lost her foal on saturday 31st of May as he had a difficult birth and was hypoxic at birth and despite emergency treatment by our vet he later that night had to be put to sleep.

Locally there was an orphan foal needing a mother and we worked all day and night Sunday carefully introducing them to each other and Im glad to say she took to him very quickly. Celt the foal will return to the Rescue centre he came from at weaning but for now they look a very odd couple, maybe he will become a racing Section A with all that Thoroughbred milk going into him!!

On another note we received photos last week of another filly we bred who is now with Amy Mahon from near Ashby de la Zouch , she was out of Bezique and by Erwfforch Dewin and Amy is having a lot of fun doing some in hand showing with her before she backs her this winter. Well done Amy, I love Lexies ( Pentaran Roulette) expressive face.

Both the pictures are at the top but you can work out who is who!!

Pentaran Special Edition

Its really nice as a breeder to hear what your homebreds are doing and a couple are local and I get almost a weekly report from them ie Sioned Ross Jones with Pentaran Limited Edition and Keira Sweeney with Pentaran Oystercatcher they are both having their first season BE this year. Another one who was sold as a Yearling was the one in the title. Little brother of P. Limited Edition who belongs to Sir Peter and Lady Forwood in Sussex and ridden very skillfully by their Daughter Jane weller. Amongst his dressage and Jumping successes he did very well in the WPCS performance awards last year and recently won the NPS Southern dressage Championship.

I ordered a photo which came this morning and here it is. he is out of one of our foundation mares whom we lost two years ago the TB Another chapter and by our Old stager Hendrewen Deryn

Catching Up !

Well its been a busy old week.We took Derwen Trot On to Lampeter under saddle but girls will be girls and a short while before we set off a visiting mare arrived for him - in season !!!! Customers come before showing so the deed was done. Needles to say his mind wasn't on the job at the show but there is always next year!

On the lorry to Lampeter we also had Gwennog Dela whom we bought as a two year old.She should now be on her way to her new home in Sweden - Good luck with her to Jo.

Have we mentioned the arrival of the new stallion? Maybe not, its been a bit hectic!!! Jelani (TB)has arrived and settled in really well. Having been 4th in the 2002 Vodafone Derby we are really honoured to have him.Pictures to follow :) An ex wife of his arrived with him and has since foaled down a lovely (but huge!!!) pure bred filly - one for the track no doubt. Her owners hope for similar success to that of Jelani's

Disappointment to Elation !!!

A couple of weeks ago an email brought some unexpected news that Marchell Morning Chorus was not in foal after a winter of expectation.

Mind you the three year old filly out of Hwylog Marian and by Hendrewen Deryn was only put in foal because she was too much of a quick learner whilst being broken ! Thinking that motherhood would tighten the reins on the avid learner,Anna, her owner, decided that the break would do her good.

April brought the sad news - no foal,so back into 'learning' mode went Mrs P as she is affectionately called.A gentle outing to a first season show,in-hand would do her good thought Anna, and maybe a ride around afterwards to settle the first time ridden nerves.

Of course Mrs P had other ideas and her fantastic behaviour led to a late entry in the Novice Ridden Class and.......................she WON !!!!!!! Well done and Mrs P .

Thursday, 3 April 2008

It did snow!!

Well we drove down on Sunday the 23rd and got Dewin settled in , settled for the night after a meal in the horsebox and woke up to a BLIZZARD!!! . Dewin was not very impressed at working in ,in the outdoor arena in a whiteout. we werent very impressed either at having been woken by the phone at 3am by my husband to tell me a foal had just been born, but he did play the midwife well.

Dewin was a little star as ever, - a slightly explosive star maybe but he managed to contain himself and do a good job to keep up with the big boys there.

There were some lovely stallions there but I have to admit that not many of them gave the show Dewin did when they did a Clapometer round after the individual Kur!!

He is settling down to homelife again now , a couple of his foals have already been born this year ,so he is now fit and ready for the covering season. Jane and I were very proud of our little Welshman that day.

Stallion Parade

Well Sunday sees Anne and myself off to the Lead Body Stallion Parade in Moulton with Dewin (Erwfforch Dewin Dirudus).

We have had many enquiries about him, especially since he achieved such a fantastic Grading result in October so it seemed natural that he should venture out and mix with our Warmblooded friends! It appears that he may be the only Welsh cob present ,out of 50 odd stallions !!!

He will be performing a three minute Kur to the tune 'Rhythym of Life' (which he loves!)

Snow promised though so lets hope we get there !!!

Wednesday, 20 February 2008

four fault itis gone.

Well, we took advantage of the last of the good weather today and took some of the boys down to work on the beach again.
Derwen Trot On ALWAYS has to have a look at a first fence however small but today he got on with it and went nicely. he has a good jump which we have never as yet exploited ,we have concentrated on him keeping a rhythm into his fences and making a good shape without interfering with him.

Wednesday, 13 February 2008

This & That

The sunny weather has been with us all this week and is nearly (!) on the yard. Only a few more weeks of S.A.D. to put up with!

Trot On has been down on the beach again, jumping. This time he had 'scary' fillers to look at and decided that they were'nt scary at all !

Rosa, our stunning (well I think so) Sec C also did a bit of jumping and is coming along nicely.

The youngstock are moulting and growing by the day! Bums up and lots of play fights.Well, boys will be boys.At least they play themselves out and then crash out at night.

Saturday, 26 January 2008

Dewin & Michael Ball!!!

We took Dewin (Erwfforch Dewin Direudus) to have a little play in the local indoor school yesterday. He's 16 this year and despite his long layoff, seems as agile as ever.He just loves music as do many of his offspring.

Wednesday, 16 January 2008

Deryn still a star.

Well, we are really pleased with the old boy, his 29th birthday is coming up this year and we did not use him to cover last year at all as he seemed to be finding it too difficult to actually jump the mares ,so we had him spend the summer with a "wife" and adopted son ,and he was very happy with the situation.

She is one of our small Thoroughbred mares - Bezique by Olympic Casino, a 15hh dark bay mare . Anyway it transpires that obviously in the hours of darkness that the deed was done, he may well have hired a hoist for the occassion and on doing an internal at the beginning of the week (because of a suspiciously expanding waistline), we were told that she is indeed carrying a Deryn foal.

This therefore is more than likely the last Hendrewen Deryn foal to be born.

Wednesday, 2 January 2008

Happy New year one and all - have a good one!

Survived Christmas

Well, this is purely an experiment, this is Anne and I have been let loose with the blog page, Jane has given me the instructions! She may yet regret it.

The horses have all survived the Christmas week and what rotten weather we have had too . The only news really is that Marchell Stop the Music ( Bluewell Stop The War x Street Music) has changed hands and we received a very nice picture of her in her new home. She is rising two now and is going to be a big girl like her mother. Lets hope this picture works!

Christmas 2007

Are we like most horsey people? Christmas day is no different really when you have horses I suppose. The usual feed and muck out with social niceities inbetween!

Anyway its over now for another year and I suppose that we should be grateful that the year has afforded us general good health (we are waiting for the wealth aspect!). Hope you all had a good un.

Sec C - on the beach

3rd Dec 07

........ crikey! who said it wasn't cold yet? We took the lovely Sec C mare -Cefngarn Rhosyn Mai down to the beach today for a bit of jumping. Blowing a gale and freezing cold but she didn't seem to mind and it was only her second time on the beach!
Took to her jumping well and then blew out the cobwebs with a good old canter across the tide line. Of course I didn't have the camera with me - typical :(

Community

30th Nov 07

........ we entertained today !
A group of adult students with learning difficulties visited from the local college and were introduced to Derwen Trot On. He was so good with them, gentle as a lamb and really showed his gentle character.
They were all doing a project on bridleways on Anglesey and came to learn about the difficulties regarding horses on the roads. After a quick look around the yard we all went off for a walk along the local bridleway. Thankfully the rain stayed away and a good walk blew the cobwebs away.

Walden Wizard - first outing

24th Nov 07

........ Anglesey Winter Fair today. WALDEN WIZARD (see entry 4th Nov) had an outing and although he was down the line, he behaved like an old man (takes after his dad!) and wasn't at all phased by his indoor surroundings. It bodes well for his career under saddle anyway :)

Foals!

20th Nov 07

........ time for loading practise with the foals today we thought!
Although they had all travelled pre weaning with their dam's, none had been in the lorry alone before today. At least we don't think so ........ they might have had a sneak out when we weren't looking as they all walked in like old timers, had a look around and back out again!
Put them all back in once again to make sure and once again straight in. All in all , hastle and stress free :)

Marchell Mab Y Dewin

14th Nov 07

........ MARCHELL MAB Y DEWIN was out again on Friday and successfully defended his BD Elementary To Music title at the NDG event. The win now qualifies him for the British Dressage Winter Regionals in February 2008.

Festival Of Champions

7th Nov 07

........ congratulations to Eileen Lester with MARCHELL MAB Y DEWIN who were competing at the weekend at Valiant's House, Festival Of Champions taking second in the Elementary and first in the Freestyle Dressage to Music. Due to a house move Eileen has not been competing much this year but each time out has been first or second in the ribbons :)

Hendrewen Deryn - Son !

4th Nov 07
........ its all go at the moment! Its been a bit of a well kept secret but we have actually bought a foal ! As we are in the market to sell them its not something we usually do but this one is a bit special. Thursday morning Anne and I dashed down to Suffolk to pick up our new acquisition, a strong colt by the name of WALDEN WIZARD. He's special because he's not only one of the last colts by his sire - Hendrewen Deryn , but also a spitting image of him.
Its early days but if all works out well then Walden Wizard has a busy time ahead of him. Hopefully under saddle and as a stock getter. Watch this space!
Walden Wizard Pedigree

SPSS Grading

24th 0ct 07

........ recovering from a hectic weekend at the WPCS Cob Sales. Great fun as usual and nice to meet and chat with old friends and new, alike. We came home with three on the lorry so plenty of work for the next few weeks!
The postman arrived this morning with Erwfforch Dewin Direudus' SPSS Grading Report. For those that wish to read it follow this link. Proud is not the word !!!!!!!

BHS Exam

17th 0ct 07

........ yet more good news today !!! Gwenan, our groom, heard today (via a delayed Royal Mail notification!) that she had passed her Stage 2 BHS Exam. Well done Gwenan.

Marchell Mab Y Dewin

16th 0ct 07

........ no, still up there on that cloud ! and following in his fathers footsteps some more good news has reached us regarding Dewin's son - Marchell Mab Y Dewin. He has just qualified for the Robinson's Championships competing at Elementary and Dressage to Music. Like father like son !

Grading

14th 0ct 07

..... they say it takes a while to come down from cloud nine.... we will just have to let you know when it happens! What a day - Grading Day at the Sports Pony Stud Society Grading at the Heart Of England Showground, Staffs.
Some of you may know that Erwfforch Dewin Direudus (Dewin for short!) has not been ridden for seven years due to a driving accident. Although it never affected his covering duties it was a shame to see such a talented animal out of work This August he was tentatively brought back into work and Anne and I discussed trying to Grade him with the SPSS. Today was the day and he behaved impeccably as usual. He was excused the jumping section due to his old injury but strutted his stuff in-hand and then in the ridden section later in the afternoon. He was in good company and the Welsh were well represented as were the overseas breeds.
Presentation time and a tense atmosphere!, not unduly worried, as at the age of 15 there was little chance of us changing Dewin now and what would be would be. Called in to the end of the line-up and Anne looked a little dejected to be honest but Dewin still looked his magnificent self. We both truly thought that he wasn't to be graded until the microphone spluttered and it was announced that Dewin had gained a Lifetime Grading with a mark of 89.23%, one of THE highest marks ever - he was actually standing TOP of the line not bottom!!! (its not like a showing line-up we now realise!)
He was adorned with a lovely sash and then excelled in his lap of honour as the music roared and he realised that was indeed NO 1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say Anne and myself were a gushing with pride and shed more than the odd tear or two! Let you know when we come down off the cloud........

Achievements

13th 0ct 07

Two of the offspring were out competing this weekend with their owners; Pentaran Limited Edition (Sioned Ross Jones - Rider Leanne Jones) and Pentaran Oystercatcher. Both the part bred mares were competing with the Llandudno Riders Club at the Area 20 Hunter Trials at Smallwood and went clear on both the open and novice sections. The club gained a well earned third place as a result.

Woody & Dewin

6th 0ct 07

Woody has settled in well and is learning to live with a sea view! Pictures soon hopefully.
............ is it really October? Glorious sunshine, chattering birds and (hopefully) green grass growing. Mind you that also means 'confused' horses...............to grow or not to grow a winter coat? To cycle or switch off? Oh well, we can't have it all ways!
Busy week next week, Dewin (Erwfforch Dewin Direudus) is off to the Sports Pony Stud Society Grading at the Heart Of England Showground, Staffs. He will need all the beauty treatments before he goes, clipping etc so lets hope the sun still shines.

Falconwood

5th 0ct 07

................ a bit of NEWS!
We have acquired a new thoroughbred stallion for our breeding programme!!!!!!! Anne and I are really pleased now to have the lovely FALCONWOOD with us. He has sired some talented offspring in the past and we hope that he will fit in with the boys and get to meet some lovely mares! 'Woody' as he is affectionately known is a rich dark bay and has a lovely temperament, which is a big priority for us.
We also wish good luck to our groom, Gwenan, who sat her Stage 2 exam yesterday and is now eagerly awaiting her results.
